The International Neighborhood Symposium is held the second time already and gathered 36 participants and 26 speakers from over 20 countries to discuss issues of security, democratization, energy, problems of civil society, perspectives of Eastern Neighborhood, and also the role of European Union and NATO in modern world processes. “The future of Europe depends on the future of Eastern Partnership on the basis of successful combination of market economy and democracy”, - mentioned speaker of Symposium, participant of 5th Kyiv Security Forum, director of International Center of Democratic Transformations (Hungary) Istvan GYARMATI.
The organizers offered the participants interesting format of work – structured dialogue, during which the participants of Symposium determined and analyzed the security and democracy threats in the regions and generated the ideas of overcoming such threats. The participants also developed special projects, the realization of which will promote democratization of the countries of Black Sea and Middle East regions and also will make life of people in these countries securer.
“I have a feeling that we are doing right thing, - noted the main organizer, director of Center of international and European studies of Kadir Has University (Turkey) Dimitrios TRIANTAPHYLLOU on the final meeting of Symposium. – This is kind of social experiment: whether we see and understand all threats to people’s security well? Are we perceiving all these threats in a right way? Are we following the stereotypes, which are in our conscious?”
The symposium demonstrated that young people from different countries and regions can find common language and unite on the basis of common human values to offer effective decisions for secure life of people and the development of democracy in their countries. The participants spent together 5 days and had opportunity not only to communicate, widen the horizons, but also find the associates. And this is very important as such meeting becomes the first step to joint projects in future.
The support of international conferences is the program activity of Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.
