First of all there must be a ceasefire in the Eastern Ukraine – Oleksandr Chalyi

The main task which Ukraine is facing today is a ceasefire in the Eastern part of the country and the beginning of social and economic transformation.

The hope that bloodshed may be stopped and the reforms may be started was given in the meeting of the Normand format in Minsk, February 12. This idea was said by Oleksandr CHALYI, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine within the scope of the Discussion club Open world organized by Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation in Kyiv, February 17.

The main result of Minsk-2 – is the hope that there will be a ceasefire. Because we all understood that we need to stop killing each other, that we can negotiate»- stressed the diplomat.

He has also mentioned that there is no need in concentrating on some details, it is not that important where the line of demarcation will be.

«Personally, I am very glad that Minsk-2 took place. I think that our situation was very hard before these negotiations in both military-political and economic spheres. If we do not receive a clear signal from the International Monetary Fund with a financial package it means that the country will be on the verge of default. And this is very well understood in Russia, DNR, LNR, Washington and Brussels» – said Oleksandr CHALYI.

An expert also added that USA and Russia have understood the danger of the hard phase of a conflict because international community did not have a clue about how the money which were given be IMF and other institutions will be used if the fire is not ceased and the peaceful agreement is not reached.

Furthermore, the agreement is really complicated in terms of implementation, because after withdrawal of heavy vehicles there will be a lot of obligations on Ukraine.

The diplomat is convinced that today Ukraine is facing the main challenge – how the reforms should be conducted and how to fight corruption. In order to achieve these goals we need to regulate a conflict in the Eastern Ukraine. But Oleksandr Chalyi added that Ukraine cannot be destroyed anymore.
