Furthermore, Efrem cited as an example his photos of Khazar tribe that was dying of starving. After his photo was published on the front pages of the world’s editions, these tribes were given the humanitarian aid. «In a couple of days I was shooting photos how packages with food were delivered to them. That was the moment when I realized that my profession also has an impact and I can do something useful», - he said.
Efrem gave advice to young photoreporters, who because of their inexperience try to photograph quite “bloody moments». «Photographer is not a pathologist», - said Efrem and described an experiment by the Associated Press, when the information agency put a picture with a «bloody scene» in a news line, but no single media used this photo.
«It’s necessary to look for an allegory. No need to put “bloody scenes” to the forefront.», - the experienced photo correspondent recommended.
He also shared his experience of work in «hot spots», spoke about the importance of the first contact with local residents and combatants. The photographer believes that no one has to forget about his own safety. «No one wants you to take a photo when he kills someone. The next victim can be you. So, you need to be very careful and work in very delicate manner.» - Lukatsky highlighted.
We remind you that Efrem Lukatsky is one of the most famous Ukrainian photographers, who for many years works for The Associated Press. As a photoreporter Efrem went through a large number of hot spots – Transnistria, Chechnya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Gaza. His photos often tell more than texts, they were published almost by all world media, among them Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, The Guardian, The Independent and others.
