“World peace is based on co-existence and cooperation between countries for the benefit of common global results”: Daniel WARNER at the ‘Open World’ Discussion Club

The ‘Open World’ Discussion Club hosted Daniel WARNER who spoke to young people about new challenges for international relations and problems the countries cannot solve without support from the other countries. The Discussion Club has taken place on June 18th in Kyiv upon initiative of the Arseniy Yatsenyuk ‘Open Ukraine’ Foundation and with the support of Friedrich Ebert Foundation Office in Ukraine. According to the experienced expert of international relations “there are some challenges that go across borders of various countries. That’s why those challenges should be addressed together. This implies co-existence and cooperation between countries for the sake of the common global results”.

The Deputy Director of Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces has also drawn attention of the ‘Open World’ Discussion Club participants that the international system is unstable and prone to constant changes. New challenges to international relations emerge constantly. Moreover, modern institutions are not flexible and quick enough to adapt to new challenges. The army is not ready to tackle these challenges since mere weapon is not sufficient factor to deal with them. The major problem is the absence of a clear leader in the system of international relations. This is the reason why G-8 and G-20 are established and called upon to find solutions to global issues”.

Daniel WARNER also placed emphasis on the identity crisis. “Globalization is OK, however, the threat of losing one’s identity is increasing. We often think of the state, forgetting about the nation,” he stressed.
Finally Daniel WARNER wished young people to be real diplomats. “Negotiations are the basis of diplomacy. Those who know how to listen and understand problems of all sides, they will be able to find the right solution”, he said.
