‘Dash Arts’ Agency, known on the cultural stage of London for its big-scale presentations of contemporary artistic life outside the borders of the EU, drew its look on “the East” – “countries of the former USSR”, which is almost entirely “invisible” so far to British in cultural terms. The first event, targeting this purpose and supported by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation, was the meeting with Oksana Zabuzhko. The meeting was promoted widely by the media and held by the Agency jointly with the English PEN-Club in popular art-café ‘Rich Mix’ on the occasion of her novel “The Museum of Abandonned Secrets”, which recently was published in English translation and already succeeded in attracting attention of British reader.

The meeting, that caused great interest of London audience, became a convenient occasion for a 2-hour discussion panel about the Ukrainian culture, language, history and contemporary Ukrainian society.

Besides the author of the discussed novel, the discussion also welcomed Andrew Wilson, historian, lecturer at the University College London, author of books “The Ukrainians: Unexpected Nation” and “Ukraine’s Orange Revolution”, and Ihor Pomerantsev (Prague – London), Russian dissident poet, staffer at Russian Bureau of Svoboda Radio, a native of Chernivtsi. After discussion and answers of readers’ questions given by O. Zabuzhko, an author autograph signing session took almost one hour accompanied by Jazz singer Oleya Zdorovetska (Kyiv-London) with a program “Subconscious songs from Ukraine”.

Further plans of ‘Dash Arts’ include a visit to Kyiv and creating a wider “Ukrainian program” for presentation in London.

It is important to note that the Arseniy Yatsenyuk ‘Open Ukraine’ Foundation has implemented ‘Cultural Horizons’ program for the fifth consecutive year, dedicated to promote Ukrainian culture abroad and integration of Ukrainian art into the global context. Each year as part of the program the Foundation provides travel grants to Ukrainian artists for participation in foreign festivals, contests and, respectively, representing cultural achievements of modern Ukraine.
