The International Documentary Film Festival Visions du Réel was held From 19 to 26 April, 2013. With the support of Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation Victoria Leshchenko, program coordinator of the International Documentary Film Festival on Human Rights Docudays UA, made a trip to this top event in the field of cinema.

The International Film Festival Visions du Réel exists since 1969 and has long been considered one of the most important documentary film festivals in the world. First of all the festival is known as a platform to explore first-time movie makers, where traditionally take place world premieres of the latest documentaries and meet all the professionals of cinema business. The festival has its own professional cinema market - Doc Outlook-International Market.

One of the tasks of Victoria Leshchenko was to spread within Visions du Réel information about the festival Docudays UA, which announced about the acceptance of films for the competition. Also during the festival she was able to meet with directors of films that are interested in cooperation, and get from them their films for screening at film festivals Docudays UA. The number of films from the Visions du Reel program, which will enter the selection at the International Documentary Film Festival on Human Rights, is 20. Already, it is safe to say that some of the movies seen at Visions du Réel will be included in the festival program.

“I was impressed by the scale of one of the most influential film festivals in the world of documentary film: more than 300 films in the program, about five festival locations and the professional cinema market. I would like us all to better use the European experience and travel more to international film festivals, expanding our own professional horizons. Attending events of this caliber we are able to select content from favorite material and not just use the one that is given. As Docudays UA is the festival which is developing, then it is necessary to have a real struggle for the best movies, specially inviting them to participate. Also trips to festivals are priceless opportunites to relatively quickly spread the information about own festival attracting new distributors to cooperation and new directors and producers. The more often we will let know about ourselves on the world market, the more likely we will work with specialized festivals and companies,” stressed the importance of her participation in the festival Victoria Leshchenko.

It is noteworthy that Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation Open Ukraine for the fifth consecutive year implements the program Cultural Horizons, which is working to promote Ukrainian culture abroad and the integration of Ukrainian art in the global context. As part of the program the Foundation annually provides travel grants to Ukrainian artists to participate in international festivals, exhibitions competitions and accordingly to represent cultural achievements of modern Ukraine.
