22 March 2013, 19:01

Official opening of the Paris Book Fair, during which Ukraine is represented by a separate stand for the first time, was held 21st March in France. The Foundation “Open Ukraine” provided support for the presentation of Ukrainian literature. On the opening day of the fair, one of the first visitors to Ukrainian stand became French President François Hollande.

Immediately after the grand opening of the Book Fair, Ukrainian writers Irene ROZBUDKO, Maryna HRYMYCH and bard Ihor ZHUK talked with readers at the Ukrainian Literary Club, which runs as part of the Book Fair.

Also, during a meeting with enthusiasts of Ukrainian literature Supervisory Board Chairman of the Foundation “Open Ukraine” Teresiya YATSENYUK talked about the grant program for translations of modern Ukrainian literature. “We were the first ones who started this program, and to date remain the only ones in the field of providing funding for translations. Such projects, I believe, are of great importance for the image of Ukraine, for its promotion in the world. Especially since modern Ukrainian literature is developing very rapidly, and we have something to present to the world community,” stressed Ms. Teresiya during the presentation.

Promotions of the Ukrainian delegation will last from 22 to 25 March. During these days Ukrainian writers Lyubko DERESH, Anton KUSHNIR, Yevheniya KONONENKO, Maryna HRYMYCH, Irene ROZBUDKO, Ivan RYABCHIY and Dmitry CHYSTYAK will hold autograph sessions and presentations for visitors of the Book Fair.

In addition, a grant program presentation of translations of modern Ukrainian literature by the Foundation “Open Ukraine” with Supervisory Board Chairman Teresiya YATSENYUK for French publishers is scheduled for 22nd March at the Ukrainian stand of “Open Ukraine”. It should be added that especially for the Paris Book Fair, Ukrainian publishers in cooperation with the French Institute in Ukraine prepared Almanac of modern Ukrainian literature.
