Ukrainian writer and philologist Evgeniya Senik received the opportunity to participate in the art residency held from January 30 to March 3, 2017, in Le Locle (Switzerland). Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation supported Evgeniya and provided her the «Travel grant for artists» covering travel expenses.

«This residence provides artists from around the world the opportunity to live and work on their projects. Among many artists, directors, musicians, choreographers, sculptors and writers only a few that during this year will stay at the residence were elected by the commission. I was the first resident from Ukraine for the period of «Luxor Factory» existence, and so it was especially important to me to represent our country with dignity,» - the writer said.

She said that she was invited to participate because of a new novel, Evgeniya work on, geographically touches Le Locle and La Chaux-de-Fonds.

«The novel «Budynok iz sirnykiv» tell about the fate of homeless people. These stories I recorded from the source in the Swiss community for the homeless. So although the novel reveals the acute social themes, it is not a documentary. This is an artistic text based on real events. What is typical is my own story. Because when I first went to the Swiss community in 2012 to gather material for the book, I tried to get used to the «role» of homeless. And with the recent arrival of an evil joke of my creative destiny, I became homeless literally. Because my house left in the occupied territory. All about it, I wrote in the «Budynok iz sirnykiv» - the author shared.

Besides the work on the novel, Evgeniya Senik held a series of presentations of previous editions of the book «Kraina U abo kinky chuzhym ditiam» for the Ukrainian diaspora in Switzerland and visited the Ukrainian community in Lugano and Bern.
