Ukrainian artist Oksana Chepelyk who received a travel grant from the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation took part in the International Art Residency of the International Institute of Modern Art and Theory in Romania.
In the status of a guest of the Residence the artist Oksana Chepelyk held a lecture «Free-D» - Free Dimensions: combining the concept, space and media art», implemented a performance «Kolayder_Ornament», held a master class of a social sculpture and organized the display of the film «Chronicles of Fortinbras».
«In Romania within the project «Collider» in the public space of the city Mangalia performance «Kolayder_Ornament» was realized. Appealing to traditional Ukrainian ornaments, I painted ornaments derived from video installations of Kiev Euromaidan, on my own body, the body of my son and bodies of all interested. Antiwar performance in Romania caused, first of all, a question: «What? Is the war still going on?». Secondly, as each ornament was painted on the body of each participant, they could divide the pain and loss of war, that is, as seems, somewhere not far away. Artists in the Residence from the US, Canada, France and Finland also «opened for themselves a war in Ukraine» and is now set to be heralds of our problems in their countries through their art,» - Ukrainian artist said.
She noted that through a performance she wanted to show the complexity of the conflict and make a kind of appeal to the world to stop the war collectively.
«Undoubtedly, the project contributed to the growth of Ukraine's image. The project used the full possibilities of exchange and communication with international artists and organizations. Presenting innovative project «Collider» Ukraine is positioned as a state that uses its scientific, intellectual and cultural potential. The successful presentation of the project in Mangalia opens opportunities for further development of the project. With innovative artistic product made the the successful implementation of the mission of cultural diplomacy in the formation of a brand modern state of Ukraine» - Oksana said.
