Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany believe that the deployment of the police mission in Donbas requires the cessation of hostilities and a high level of security. It was stated by the Authorized Representative on Ukraine of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of German Johannes Rehenbreht  within the Discussion Club «Open World» organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk «Open Ukraine» Foundation.

According to the German diplomat, 57 country members of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe discuss the introduction of a separate OSCE mission for the maintenance of local elections in Donbas.

«We are agree that we are still far from these elections, because, first of all, we need a regime of peace and security, and there are much to be done, including stop fighting in the east of Ukraine,» - J. Rehenbreht said.

However, as the representative of the German Foreign Ministry said, it is hard to imagine the work of international peacekeeping mission on ensuring law and order in circumstances where the parties to the Donbas conflict use heavy artillery against each other. Therefore, to his mind, first of all it is necessary to establish ceasefire, withdraw from the boundary line and place weapons in storage locations (vaults) and also to document all these weapons and to confirm its withdrawal.

«It should be done and when we get it ... then I think we can establish a mission in support of the elections,» - J. Rehenbreht said.

In addition, he said that the issue of weapons or parts of weapons of this mission will depend on the OSCE participating States.
