Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation in partnership with the British Council held a two-day training Active Citizens, where more than 20 young people learned how to develop their own initiatives, ideas and projects, seek like-minded and write grant applications.
During the welcoming speech the director of Open Ukraine Foundation Taras MYKHALNIUK mentioned that the main objective of the training is to show that civil society can successfully implement their ideas into practice, without waiting for assistance or staying aside the urgent needs of society.
“We decided to organize the training Active Citizens, as we are convinces that there are a lot of people who have wonderful and interesting projects, but they may sometimes lack some organizational knowledge and some advices of people that already realized their own ideas or the information how to find at least the minimum funding for their own projects. We tried to select motivated and interested young people who believe in what they do and work for the result. And not necessarily that these people are the members of a large or a small organizations. The main thing is to find like-minded and to realize their initiations. I hope that the training Active Citizens will contribute to this and soon the participants will show their results, which may not immediately change the world, but will save someone’s life or bring benefit to others” – said Taras Mykhalniuk.
The program manager of Active Citizens of British Council Vitaliy TYKHONOVYCH said that the training program aims to increase individual contribution of citizens who have influence in the community and aim to achieve sustainable development at local and global levels.
“The program provides tools and help citizens to understand better how to work with people with different worldviews. The key point in this case is an action. And very often this action doesn’t require finance. The main thing – to promote social change and sustainable development. There are a lot of tools for this, but the British Council focuses on creating and building a network of young leaders”, - mentioned Vitaliy Tykhonovych.
Moreover, as a result of participation in the training the participants have to prepare their own projects. The British Council will carry out partial funding of the selected projects.
